Greetings to all those who have been connected with Baklimsa Temple in New York and have participated in the Open Mountain Ceremony from various parts of the world. I hope you have all been well.

Baklimsa Temple, situated in the Catskills near New York, has become widely known as a center for Korean Seon (Zen) Buddhist practice worldwide. Since its establishment in 1987, through its association with the Korean Buddhist Promotion Association in the Americas, it has continuously promoted Buddhism for 46 years.

These days, many people around the world are suffering due to wars and pandemics. During these difficult times, we send our respect to those who, believing in Buddha’s power, are seeking spiritual strength and miracles with new hope and determination.

June, the beginning of summer, is a beautiful time when flowers bloom all over Baklimsa Temple. On the third Sunday of June 2024, the 16th, we will hold the Open Mountain Ceremont at thee Temple. We invite the faithful community who cherish and love Baklimsa to attend in large numbers.

We earnestly pray that many dedicated practitioners will participate, leading to the emergence of many enlightened individuals at Baklimsa, and together with the faithful community, we hope to achieve a Buddhist land in the Americas.

An Invitation Letter from Baklimsa

Ladies and Gentleman,

The beautiful summer is upon us and it is time for our 25th Annual “Open Mountain Ceremony”.

We at Catskill Zen Monastery have been conducting this ceremony for the past 25 years.

We have just completed building the Community Living Quarters. These numerous building projects are a testament to over 40 years of strong will and dedication oof our Zen Master Hye Seong sunim, and the wonderful Korean Buddhist community of Greater New York and New Jersey.

This year commemorates our 41st anniversary of the introduction of Korean Buddhism to the United States. Baklimsa is the only traditional Korean Buddhist Temple in the eastern United States. It was founded upon the most traditional Korean Buddhism, which includes its culture and temples. Our members and Zen Master HyeSeong at Baklimsa have made unprecedented efforts to establish the most true and pure Buddhist environment in Catskill, New York by creating the Bell of Peace, Pagoda of Buddha’s True Relics, medicine Buddha, Catskill Zen Art Gallery, Temple Gate, Eastern Cultural Temple Tea Garden and Nirvana Buddha Temple Church White Forest Zen Art Center.

Our most important mission at most important mission at Baklimsa is to teach the learning of Buddhism and to show the path to Enlightenment. We hope many of you will join us this year in learning the life that Buddha taught us to lead.
